SeniorMatch review (2026): is it worth paying for?

The numbers, as shown inside the account

The prices below are what the checkout showed our account on 16 September 2026, not figures from a marketing page. One month is $33.99. The screen writes it as "$8.50 / week", but nothing is charged weekly: the actual debit is $33.99 once a month. Three months is $69.99 taken in a single charge, about $23.33 a month. Six months is $109.99 in a single charge, about $18.33 a month.

These are recent numbers, and they move. On 5 September 2026, only eleven days before this check, the same three plans read $29.95, $59.95 and $95.95. So the one-month price rose from $29.95 to $33.99 inside two weeks. That is the reason we date every price on this site and tell you to read the checkout screen yourself before you pay.

The referral codes SeniorMatch prints on its pricing pages (2026 and SM82) are not discounts. They add membership days: 7 on the one-month plan, 15 on three months, 50 on six months, and only if you enter one at the third registration step. Payment goes through Visa, Mastercard, American Express, debit cards, CCBill, Google Pay or PayPal, and the charge shows on your statement as "SeniorMatch".

How we tested

We work from a Premium account provided for this review, active 16 September to 15 October 2026, with auto-renew switched off. The account belongs to a 63-year-old woman looking for men. Every screen named on this page, the checkout, the service agreement, the FAQ, the privacy panel, the filter panel and the Discover gallery, was read inside that account and dated. We did not send messages, wink at anyone, save profiles or contact support, so nothing we did changed what other members saw.

Two honest limits. We did not message members, so we cannot report reply rates or how fast people answer. And the account's Premium was provided for this review, not bought, so we read the price at checkout rather than paying it ourselves. Signing up, verification, and what free gets you

Registration is free and takes a few minutes. A free (Standard) account can build a profile, post up to 26 public photos and 26 private ones, search by country and state, send winks (20 a day for the first three days, then 40), comment on profiles and reply to any message a Premium member sends first.

The line that catches people out is who may start a conversation. A free member cannot. The FAQ, dated 13 July 2026, puts it plainly: "at least one person in a conversation must have an active PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP for messaging to remain available". So two free members can wink at each other forever and never exchange a word. To open a conversation, or to keep one going, at least one side has to be paying.

Photo verification has applied to everyone since 14 April 2025. It is a 3 to 8 second selfie video, reviewed within a day, and the screen flashes color while it records, so be aware of that if you are photosensitive. Verification proves the person matches their photos. It does not check income, job, intentions or record. That gap matters, and we come back to it in the safety section.

Who is actually on it

This is where a free look earns its keep. We sampled the first 40 cards in the Discover feed as we found it on 16 September 2026, with no location filter taking effect. None were in the United States. 27 of the 40 carried the label "open to relocating or traveling to meet". The median age was 52, and 6 of 40 were 65 or older. Many bios were written in Arabic, Slovenian or Turkish.

The next day we set the account's location filter to the United States and searched again. The gallery returned "No members found". We reset the state to no preference and left only the country as the United States, and the result did not change. This was not a thin sample: with the filter set to the United States, the gallery held zero cards, and it held zero again after a hard refresh in a separate session. The account was seeking men, aged 50 to 99, with no other filter narrowing the search.

Read this as one account's view, not a headcount of the whole service. It is what a 63-year-old woman's profile saw with no location filter taking effect, and then with the feed pinned to her own country. If your own free search shows the same empty result for your state, that is the single most useful thing you can learn before paying, because Premium changes what you can do, not who lives near you.

Free versus Premium: the eight privileges that matter

SeniorMatch lists 40 Premium privileges. Most are minor. Eight of them decide whether paying changes your day, and all eight are locked on a free account:

• Start a conversation. The one that matters most. Free members can only reply.
• Distance search. Filtering by how far away someone is needs Premium, which is awkward given how many profiles are marked willing to relocate.
• Advanced filters. Marital status (including Widowed), height, faith, ethnicity, smoking, drinking and more.
• See who viewed or liked you. Free accounts see the count, not the people.
• Browse anonymously. Look without leaving a trace.
• Hide your online status. Stay off the green-dot list while you read.
• Block incoming voice and video calls. Stop calls before they reach you.
• Voice and video calls with your number masked.

The rest, unlimited swipes, daily picks, read-once photos, auto-replies, pinned chats and no ads, are conveniences rather than reasons to pay. The advanced filter panel prints one warning at the top: "Advanced filters reset when your Premium membership expires." So the search you carefully build vanishes the month your card stops, and you rebuild it if you return.

Billing, renewal, refunds, and cancelling

Auto-renew is on by default. In SeniorMatch's own words, a plan is "renewed for the same package length at the same price until you cancel it", so a one-month plan bills again every month until you stop it. Turning it off is the first thing we would do after paying.

The refund window is short and specific. The service agreement, dated 12 May 2026, allows a 3 business day trial period: "you may cancel a subscription within three (3) business days of subscribing to our Service to receive a refund". After those 3 business days, subscription fees are non-refundable except during that window, though the FAQ says the support team will look at refund requests case by case. Premium cannot be paused or frozen. If you want a break, you cancel and lose the filters.

How you cancel depends on how you paid, and this is where money quietly keeps leaving accounts. If you paid on the web, you cancel under Settings, then Subscriptions. If you paid through an iPhone or iPad, you cancel in Apple's subscription settings. If you paid through Google Play, you cancel in the Play Store. The trap: deleting your SeniorMatch account does not stop an App Store or Google Play charge. In the FAQ's words, "you'll also have to stop your subscription through Google and / or Apple. If you do not, you will continue being charged regardless of your account status." A deleted account can also be restored by logging back in within six months.

The charge appears on your statement as "SeniorMatch". If you need a person, SeniorMatch lists 1-416-628-1072 and 1-888-702-1274 (toll-free), 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern.

Safety, privacy, and reporting

Start with the sentence SeniorMatch prints in its own agreement: "NO CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENING". The selfie-video check confirms that a member looks like their photos. It does not vet anyone. Treat a verified badge as proof of a face and nothing more.

That matters because the losses in this age group are large and rising. The Federal Trade Commission reported that people 60 and older lost nearly $2.4 billion to fraud in 2024, up from about $1.9 billion in 2023. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center put romance and confidence-scam losses among people 60 and older at $389 million for the same year. A dating profile is a common opening move in those cases, which is why we keep money and phone numbers out of any early conversation, here or anywhere else.

The privacy controls are more capable than the verification. You can hide your current location, hide your city, hide yourself from all members or from one sex, browse anonymously, hide your online status, and limit who sees you by region or age. There is a Global Visibility switch that decides whether members in other countries can see you, a setting to prevent incoming video and voice calls, and two-factor login. One caveat repeats from the filters: Premium-only privacy settings reset to default when Premium expires. To report someone, open the "..." menu on their profile or in the chat and choose Report.

The app versus the website

The app and the website show the same account, and most people will end up on the app. The iPhone app rates 3.8 of 5 from 2,240 ratings, and the Android app 3.7 of 5 from about 1,870 reviews, both read on 17 September 2026.

Watch the price on Apple. The App Store listing describes the one-month plan as $34.99, but the checkout for that same plan showed $33.99 at the same visit. The three-month and six-month prices agreed at $69.99 and $109.99. So the listing and the purchase screen disagree by a dollar on the one-month plan, and we could not test the Android in-app price. The other reason to notice where you pay: a subscription bought inside the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled inside that store, as the billing section explains.

What reviewers say, checked against the account

Public scores are low in the places that let anyone post, and higher on the app stores. Here is the spread on the day we checked.

The complaints fall into four groups, and each one lines up with something we could see in the account. On fake or foreign profiles, a one-star reviewer wrote on 12 February 2026: "Total scam dating site. Get messages anywhere accept local. Believe these are nothing but fake profiles." Our own sample fits the shape of that grievance: 0 of 40 cards were in the United States, and 27 of 40 were marked open to relocating. Another one-star reviewer, on 5 September 2025, put it this way: "I’m getting matches from all over the world!!! You can tell they’re not real."

On billing, a one-star reviewer wrote on 3 September 2026: "I got charged twice. First on my credit card, then again on my credit card through Apple." That is exactly the store-billing trap the agreement warns about: cancel on the web and the App Store charge can carry on. On support, a one-star reviewer wrote on 3 March 2026: "TOTAL waste of time and money. Their website is awful. Their support is worse." We did not contact support, so we cannot judge the replies, only note the published phone lines and hours. On app bugs, a one-star reviewer wrote on 11 July 2026: "When you try to click on a function nothing happens." We browsed in read-only and did not reproduce it, but it echoes the delete-and-cancel friction in the billing section, where removing your account does not stop a store charge. For balance, a five-star reviewer wrote on 27 January 2026: "This platform is designed specifically for singles over 50, and the interface is clean, user-friendly, and easy to navigate." SeniorMatch vs SilverSingles vs OurTime

SeniorMatch and SilverSingles are run by the same company, SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., on what looks like the same software: the same menus, the same FAQ wording, the same 3 business day refund clause, the same Widowed filter. The visible difference is price. SeniorMatch is $33.99 a month. SilverSingles, on its logged-in checkout, was $499.00 a month and $999.00 for three months, and it shows no price at all until you are inside. That is roughly fifteen times the SeniorMatch price for a very similar product with 33 listed privileges against SeniorMatch's 40.

OurTime is the one we could only read from the outside. Its pricing sits behind a login, and its public help pages give no dollar figure. What they do say, on the day we read them, is that multi-month packages are "charged in full at the time of purchase", that "all new upgrades are charged a one-time, non-refundable processing fee", and that free trials are "occasionally offered" only to members signed up for promotional email. Who it suits, and who should skip it

SeniorMatch suits you if a free search of your state turns up active profiles nearby, if you like that marital status can be filtered to Widowed once you pay, and if you are comfortable messaging on your phone and will remember to switch off auto-renew.

Skip it, or at least do not pay yet, if you need distance search from day one, since that is a Premium feature and many profiles are marked willing to relocate anyway. Skip it if you know you will not turn off auto-renewal, because the plan bills again on its own and the refund window is only 3 business days. And skip it if what you want is to message another free member back and forth, because at least one person in every conversation has to be paying.

Bottom line

SeniorMatch is a real service at a fair headline price, $33.99 for a month, and it costs nothing to register and see your own area first. The verdict turns on one thing you can check for free in five minutes: whether real, nearby profiles show up for your state. For the account we tested, they did not, and paying would not have changed that.

So do the free search, read the checkout price on the day, and pay for a single month only if people near you appear. Then turn off auto-renew the same day.

What we could not check: we did not send messages, so we cannot report reply rates or how quickly members answer. We did not contact support, so we did not test the support complaints ourselves. And we read the App Store price but could not confirm the Android in-app price, so the one-dollar gap we found is an Apple finding only. Prices and rules change, as the $29.95 to $33.99 jump in eleven days shows, so read the checkout screen yourself on the day you decide.
